Double Challenge Card

  I actually got a minute yesterday to stamp, and decided to combine the Splitcoast challenge from Wednesday (SC197) and Kristina Werner's Color Inspiration Challenge.

I changed it up a bit by adding the oval, but overall, it was a fun and easy card to make! Amazing how you can take a sketch, some colors, and create a card really fast!  If you've never tried it - you need to TODAY!!  It is a great way to boost your creativity!!

We are packing up and getting ready to head out to the ocean for a few days - as mentioned in my previous post - and we are excited!  The weather is promising to be gorgeous. Have a wonderful holiday weekend everyone!!

Beate Weekend Sketch

Well, these colors are definitely not my favorite choices, but when put together, I really like them! These colors were a challenge on Kristina's blog

I also used the card sketch provided by Beate for the weekend sketch.

So I put these two challenges together and what fun it was!  I had just gotten the stamp set Pun Fun and I can't believe I waited this long to get it - it is so much fun to play with!!  I also used the Jersey Shores Designer Series paper to make this card and it came together so quick and easy thanks to the card sketch by Beate and the color inspiration by Kristina.  While I was making one card, I had to try another.

I have to admit I really love this color combo now!  Who would've thought - blue and orange together!!  I always have a problem making masculine cards, and I think this is a winning color combo for masculine cards!  I'll be using this more often.  That is why I love these color challenges and card sketches - they take me out of my comfort zones to try something new. If you haven't tried a challenge before, go ahead and give it a try - you'll be glad you did!!

Color Inspiration Challenge #6

I found this really fun blog by Kristina Werner.  She has challenges every week where she finds color inspiration in either a magazine, clothes, furniture etc., and then challenges us to use the colors in a card.  This week the colors were Sahara Sand, Pumpkin Pie, Wild Wasabi and So Saffron.  Now these are definitely out of my comfort zone!! I would NEVER have put these colors together!! But I was pleasantly surprised at how well my card ended up turning out.  I used the set So Much and Make it Count to make this card, and I also pulled out my crimper - a long forgotten tool! and crimped the Pumpkin Pie strip.  I also used my stipple brush and stippled Basic Brown ink across the card to give it more depth and dimension.  I initially bought the So Much set to use for scrapbooking, but I was amazed at how fun it was to make a card with this set too!

And so I've also been busy working on wedding album pages - here is another look at a page that I finished today.

I apologize for the scan - I used Blush Blossom paper, and it shows up as white on the scan.  URGH!  Aggravating trying to take good pictures of your work! 

Anyway, since I had the So Much set out, I used it on this page, and I really was pleased with the outcome.

Here is another scan of another page that I worked on.  They look much better IRL - I am frustrated with the scanning of this page!! The color combo is one I would never have put together myself, except that the colors seemed to call for it - Soft Sky, Blush Blossum, Very Vanilla and Choc. Chip - now I really want to make a card with this color combo - but maybe tomorrow - my kids are home from school now, and it is officially THE WEEKEND - woohoo!!

 

To Have and Hold SCS173

This is the sketch posted today by Roxie at Splitcoaststampers.  It looked like a really fun sketch and I decided I wanted to play along. 

I received a wedding invitation in the mail today shortly after checking out this challenge and thought - I need to make this wedding card now! So I got busy and pulled out my new To Have and to Hold set (never having been inked up!!). Ooh it was so much fun to play with this set! I used Le Jardin DS paper for the background. Then I stamped in Going Gray the bride and groom on Very Vanilla paper and then colored in with my SU markers and blender pens. Then I wanted to make the dress and vail pretty and sparkly so I tried something different. I had purchased Flocking from Ellen Hutson's site and only used it once. Thought I'd try it out on this card and I LOVED the look! I used my Tombow Multi Purpose adhesive and then poured the flocking over it. I then sprinkled Dazzling Diamonds over the flocking to make it soft and sparkly. I absolutely love how this card turned out!!

I'm really glad I played along with this challenge, and now all I have to do is make the wedding present for my sweet friend who is getting married -  you see - she stayed with me through the summers while her mother worked.  She started staying with me when she was 11 years old until she was in her teens - I can't believe she is getting married now at 19 years old and it makes me feel old!!! (Even though some of you think I look young - LOL!!) I am going to make her a special album to put her wedding pictures in - so I know I've got to get busy - the wedding is in May.  But at least I've got the card done!! 

Beate Weekend Sketch

Here is my card for Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge - it was a fun and easy sketch to play with and I really like how it turned out.

I used a color that has long been forgotten in my stash - Vintage Violet for the base of the card, and then used as my accent colors, the Apricot Appeal, Real Red and Wild Wasabi as well as Sahara Sand.  This was the first time I broke out my die cut blossoms flowers.  These are a lot of fun to play with - can't imagine why it took me so long to use them!  This was a fun and easy card and I love the bright colors of it - definitely not my usual style, but fun to do!!

My daughter will be turning 12 this year - in a few days - I can hardly believe it!  A pre-teen and that makes me feel old!!  She is almost as tall as me - which of course isn't saying much because I am short  - 5' 0" for the record!  But to have your own little daughter look you in the eye - it makes you want to push STOP on the time button and just freeze time in place!  LOL!! So anyway, she wanted simple invitations - she is such a tomboy - and BLUE had to be part of the equation - so here is what we came up with...

The SAB set came in handy!!  It worked great for her invitation!  I used my Cuttlebug on the Bayou Blue to emboss the background and then tied some ribbon around it I had on hand - I think from Michael's.  The white part of the 3x3 mini card opens up where the invitation information is written.  She was very pleased with this cards, and didn't say anything about the glitter - she is not a "prissy" little girl to be sure and I was hoping I could slide it in there - and she never said a word - hah! So now that we have the invites made - now all we have to do is address them and get them mailed out for the big party this weekend... 

Beate Weekend Sketch

Here is a card that I also made for Beate's weekend sketch (details here).  It wasn't the easiest sketch to work with, but it felt good to try to create a card out of my familiar little "box".  I kept wanting to put the stamped design in the center of the card, but it was a totally different look using this sketch and fun too!!  I can't keep my hands off of Crystal Effects, and used that on the little fruit on the vines.  The Infinite Goodness set is a level 2 set that I've been using a lot.  Then of course the stamped sentiment is from the True Friend set.  Then I couldn't resist using some of those wonderful rubons on the bottom edge of the card.  Paper is from my favorite right now - Berry Bliss!!  Thanks for stopping by!!  I'll be back tomorrow with some more fun things to share!

Beate Weekend Sketch

On a wild whim tonight I thought I would try Beate's weekend sketch found here and thought I would give it a whirl!! 

Above is the card sketch outlined by Beate and below is my rendition...

Sorry for the bad picture, but it is late tonight and I am headed for bed and too tired to try again!!  I used a totally out of the box color combo for me - pale plum, purely pomegranate and soft sky, along with river rock and black as accents.  I saw a card on SCS with this combo a while ago and it intrigued me then, and I decided to try it tonight since I was definitely reaesize! It was a lot of fun!! I used the Boho Backgrounds set for the base of the squares and then used the circle emblem with the scallop punch set up with glue dots and embossed with the new Cosmo glitter.   I used paper from the Le Jardin DS paper for the background paper.  Prisma flowers with brads were used for the accents on the sides. Then I topped the card off with Stickles to make it shine!  This was definitely a fun card to make and I am so glad I tried.   TFL!
